<p>The commercial marketplace is overflowing with a large number of diet supplements and weight loss options. But natural options are the safest way to shed pounds. Dieticians and nutritionists recommend natural weight loss diets to people who are health conscious.</p>
<p>People who follow a diet of raw fruits and vegetables for weight loss are less prone to heart disease, stroke and cancer. Vegetarian weight loss programs can be structured using a point system so that vegetables are a “0”, fruits are between 1-3 points and nuts and seeds rank higher because they are higher in calories and fats.</p>
<p>The desire for a lean healthy body must include regular intake of water, the right foods and regular exercise. Like in any other program large helpings of high-fat protein sources such as peanut butter, nuts and cheese can cause vegetarians to gain weight.<span id="more-1432"></span></p>
<p>Instead of using peanut butter or nuts as snacks, use whole grain snacks, fruit and vegetables during the day. Using a vegetarian weight loss program does not ensure automatic weight loss. Write down a record of everything you eat during the day to keep a handle on your eating habits. Keep watch on everything that isn’t raw fruit and vegetables.</p>
<p>Plan your meal choices during the day since last minute choices are usually higher in calories. Those chips, cookies, power bars and candy, although meatless, are higher in calories, sugar and fats. Use a daily multi-vitamin to fill in the gaps.</p>
<p>There are convenience foods sold in the grocery store that fit a vegetarian weight loss program. Check out the health food store and watch the calories, sugars, fats and oils in the products. Do not resort to junk foods. When all else fails apples and bananas are convenient, filling and full of good nutrition.</p>
<p>You can also put together pre-made bags of your own trail mix. Include almonds, raisons, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds for a healthy nutritious snack. Try to eat only raw and organic nuts and seeds for the best flavor and fuel.</p>
<p>Preparation of your vegetarian weight loss program can be just as important as the foods you eat. Grocers now carry vegetarian burgers that can be microwaved as opposed to fried. Frying foods is just as dangerous as eating meats because of the increased animal fats and the processing that vegetable oils and lard go through to make them palatable. Try to eat as much raw foods as possible to help your digestive system.</p>
<p>Choose a vegetarian weight loss diet; it&#8217;s a natural and healthy weight loss option to add to your weight loss arsenal. If done right you’ll see some fast weight loss initially, you’ll feel better and have more energy to boot.</p>

The gym offers a wide variety of machines you can use for a circuit training workout, but you don’t have to belong to a gym to get the benefits. A circuit can be set up in your own home.</p>
<p>Circuit training combines aerobic and anaerobic activities for a workout that builds muscle and burns fat at the same time. In one thirty minute session, you can work your entire body. Many health clubs have circuit stations where several people can participate at the same time. The key to success is that you keep moving without a break so the heart rate stays elevated to burn fat.</p>
<p>Here’s how it works. Aerobic activity is alternated with strength training. For example, you can perform one minute of stationary bike riding with one minute of bicep curls. After another minute of biking, you can switch to another body part for strength training, like leg curls. If you want more aerobics, increase to five minutes of aerobics for every one or two minutes of weights.<span id="more-1400"></span></p>
<p>Want to get in on this type of training without joining a gym? Here&#8217;s some ideas:</p>
<p>1. Get a DVD. There are exercise videos that highlight circuit training. If you are new to the concept, these can help you learn to alternate aerobics with weights in a smooth transition. From there, you can create your own workout regimen.</p>
<p>2. Push-ups. You don’t need any equipment to perform this exercise. Your own body weight is used. Push-ups strengthen the muscles of the chest and abdomen, as well as the triceps muscles.</p>
<p>3. Jumping jacks. You did them as a kid, but they get harder as you get older. Because both your arms and your legs are moving, you get your heart rate up quickly. And, you can do it anywhere: in the elevator, on vacation, during television commercials.</p>
<p>4. Crunches. To perform abdominal exercises, you only need the floor and proper form. As you gain strength, you’ll be able to crunch harder and longer. Add a twist at the top to work the oblique muscles. If you have back problems, you can get the same results by using a fitness ball.</p>
<p>5. Dumbbell. Free weights offer a greater range of motion and are not bulky like machines. After your aerobic phase, you can quickly pick up a set of dumbbells to perform rear leg lifts, triceps curls, deltoid lifts, lat rows, military presses, squats and lunges.</p>

Meaning that anyone who wishes to lose weight must take in less calories than they burn.</p>
<p>For a healthy adult, with no other underlying medical conditions, who receives a moderate amount of exercise daily, a calorie is a calorie. Research has shown that individuals who follow a typical vegetarian diet will consume approximately 500 fewer calories daily than those individuals who eat meat. And, that individuals who eat a vegetarian diet will actually consume more food than nonvegetarians.<span id="more-1098"></span>However, the definition of a vegetarian diet is that the individual no longer eats meat, and for some, meat products. This does not mean that individuals completely cut out white flour, sugar or processed foods, all of which are high in dense calories and are related to disease and illness. Even vegetarians can eat the wrong types of food which can lead to weight gain. For instance, chips, cookies, power bars and candy all qualify as vegetarian foods and yet are high in calories, sugar and processed chemicals.</p>
<p>Research has also shown that individuals who follow a low fat, plant-based diet plan will have a greater degree of success at weight loss and improve their insulin sensitivity than those who follow a diet which includes both meat and vegetables. This research was published in the September issue of The American Journal of Medicine.<br />
Other studies show that obesity and individuals who suffer from being overweight are less prevalent in populations which follow a plant-based diet. For instance, a study from Tufts University followed 55,000 Swedish women and found that 40% of the meat eaters were overweight while only 29% of the vegetarians were.</p>

<p>Anyone wishing to attempt to fast should learn as much about it as possible prior to starting any program. And, most importantly, should clear that program with their primary care physician who can evaluate the impact that it could have on any underlying medical conditions from which they suffer.</p>
<p>Fasting can be undertaken for as short a period as one day or as long as 30 days &#8211; depending upon the type of fast and your overall health at the beginning of the fast. Making an informed decision about your plans based on your current health, fitness and medications is the most important thing that you can do to increase your potential for success.<span id="more-1089"></span></p>
<p>Individuals have found that fasting can be an effective way to lose some initial unnecessary body fat but will more importantly, also cleanse the body of unhealthy toxins and help the individual to divorce themselves of unhealthy eating habits.</p>
<p>The reality is that weight loss happens through a negative calorie balance. This means that an individual will lose weight when they burn more calories than they take in. This negative balance can occur when an individual decreases their intake or increases their burn (exercise). Individuals who attempt to fast for weight loss may find that it gives them a healthy way to jumpstart their program but is definitely not a way of managing their weight loss.</p>
<p>Weight management is not an endless journey of weight gain and weight loss but instead should be achieved through maintaining a specific weight. Individuals can do this by changing their eating habits to maintain a lifelong lifestyle change. This means that they no longer go on &#8220;diets&#8221; and no longer fear failing.</p>
<p>If you have an underlying emotional eating habit, you may find that fasting can lead to an unhealthy conversion to binging or anorexia. Either one of those eating disorders are very dangerous to your health and individuals who believe they may have an underlying emotional eating habit should seek the advice of their primary care physician or a psychologist to assist them in developing a program which will address their underlying emotional needs prior to attempting a negative calorie balance.</p>
<p>For those who are attempting to fast for one to 30 days, there are three different types of fast. They are: water only, juice, or a fruit fast. A water only fast is pretty self-explanatory, for this fast you will only drink water until the fast is broken. Individuals who prefer the juice fast will drink freshly squeezed juices that are included but not limited to: carrots, apples, vegetables and fruits. A fruit only fast allows you to only eat fruit of any kind and in any amount as well as drink water.</p>
<p>Most people who fast to jumpstart their diet will start with a water only fast. This fast should last no longer than three days and then should move to either a juice only fast or back to eating healthy well-balanced meals. Juice only fast should be fresh squeezed at home using the juicing machine. The beneficial ingredient in these juices are the living enzymes which will die 24 hours after being produced. Thus, freshly squeezed juice is imperative in order to gain the most benefit from the juice.</p>
<p>Once an individual has achieved their time goals for the juice only fast they can move into the front portion of the fast. During this phase of fasting individuals should use as much organic produce as they can. Imagine pouring fungicides and herbicides into your body and an alarming rate as you juice 2 pounds of carrots to get 16 ounces of juice.</p>
<p>This phase should be half the length of time of the water and juice phase combined. In other words if you fasted with water only and juice for a total of 10 days then you should eat only fruit for a total of five days.<br />
Once the juice phase is completed, you can move into a raw food diet of vegetables and fruit for the same length of time as the fruit fast and then continue to see rapid weight loss.</p>
<p>A secondary benefit of this diet is the cleansing out of the lower intestines and by adding an increased amount of fiber to the diet, you will also be cleaning the toxins from the body.</p>
<p>For the last days of the diet you should transition to foods that you will continue to eat and maintain over the long haul. Lifestyle changes for all people should include as much raw food as possible, since adding enzymes into the body is a wonderful way of giving a your body healthy nutrition.</p>

After years of failure, many dieters and those who have changed their lifestyle choices, have found some great ways to decrease temptation and improve their chances of leaving the store without a bag of Cheetos under one arm and ice cream in the other.</p>
<p>The first rule of thumb is to never go shopping when you&#8217;re hungry. Unfortunately, hunger will decrease your judgment and make it a higher risk that you&#8217;ll make poor food choices. If you don&#8217;t have time to grab a meal before going to the store, take a quick healthy snack in the car so that your stomach is not entirely empty. If that&#8217;s out of the question then grab a bag of baby carrots from the produce department, or something similar, to munch on while walking through the bakery and down the potato chip aisle.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s also helpful to take a list to the store when you&#8217;re attempting to make better lifestyle choices or are following a specific diet plan. Make out a menu for the week and use that to determine the foods that will be placed on the <span id="more-1082"></span>shopping list. If you find that you continue to have trouble and are tempted then take cash to the grocery store and not the credit card. Take only enough cash to cover the groceries and not the extra 10 snacks you would love to bring home.</p>
<p>Another temptation of the grocery store is often the bulk food aisle. On the one hand these foods are often more cost-effective but, on the other, if you eat everything in one week, they are calorie costly. Using bulk foods at home may mean you have to split them into weekly or daily portions or even share the unused portions with friends and family to decrease your temptation and continue to save money.</p>
<p>Some foods can also be prepackaged for the freezer, and that will save time and energy when getting ready to make dinner.</p>
<p>At the grocery store there are often demo foods being offered to shoppers. Don&#8217;t stress too much over those because the portions are small and you usually have just one. These demos foods usually satisfy cravings and, while aiming for healthy diet change, these foods will often help satisfy your craving. Allowing yourself the occasional treat, most individuals find that they don&#8217;t fall off the diet as frequently as they had in the past.</p>
<p>Try to avoid using processed or prepared foods as much as possible. These are usually very dense and calories and have an unusual amount of chemical preservatives. Most of these foods are sold in the middle of the store and for this reason individuals should try to shop around the perimeter of the store where dairy products, fresh meat and produce are found.</p>
<p>Any prepackaged processed foods that are purchased should be evaluated closely. You would be surprised by the amount of sugar, carbohydrates and fats found on the labels of your favorite foods.</p>
<p>The goal is to maintain a healthy diet plan and decrease the amount of guilt trips you may take while snacking at home. Be sure to include snack foods in your list that are healthy and fit your lifestyle. Shopping may not be the most fun activity of the week but it is a necessity and running out of food in the pantry will only increase the challenges you face during the week.</p>

Some experts believe this is because so many people are overweight, and carrying extra pounds can increase your chances of developing these and other chronic conditions. To reduce the likelihood of developing a weight-related disease, many people are trying to shed extra pounds.</p>
<p>People trying to lose weight are constantly looking for foods they can enjoy but that are also good for them. If they can find something to eat that will aid in their weight-loss efforts they think that’s even better. To that end, some experts say you should eat more beans. But why are beans good for losing weight?<span id="more-1043"></span></p>
<p>Part of the reason beans are good for helping a person lose weight is that beans are comparable with meat as far as calories are concerned. They also provide needed protein the same way meat will. The difference, however, is that beans contain much more fiber and water content than meat and this helps you to feel fuller faster. If you feel full, you’ll be less likely to overeat and you won’t feel like you’re missing anything.</p>
<p>Fiber is a substance severely lacking in most people’s diets. Men need at least 30-38 grams each day and women 21-25 grams. Eat one cup of cooked beans, which has almost 12 grams, and you’ve come a long way towards meeting that need for the day. Meat doesn’t contain fiber even though it does have other nutrients the body needs.</p>
<p>Beans also contain the hormone cholecystokinin (CCK) which is necessary for the gastrointestinal system to work properly. It is needed to stimulate the system when digesting proteins and fats and is needed for the gall bladder and pancreas to function. Some reports state the CCK also acts as a hunger suppressant which would explain why beans make you feel full.</p>
<p>Recent studies have had groups of test subjects eat the same things, except for the addition of beans to one group’s diet. Scientists found the people who had eaten the beans weighed up to seven pounds less than those who didn’t eat them. They also noted the difference in the calories from the foods eaten. Because beans were added to their diets, those subjects were able to eat more calories and still maintain the benefits of lower weight and slimmer waists.</p>
<p>Which beans should you eat? The U.S. Department of Agriculture suggests eating small red beans and red kidney beans to get the most antioxidants. You may also want to add black beans, navy beans, and black-eyed peas so you’ll have a variety of beans to choose from.</p>
<p>Besides being a great source of protein and fiber which are so important for people trying to lose weight, beans  also contain antioxidants and cholecystokinin which is why beans are good for losing weight and for good health.</p>

<p>Is there a secret to a flat belly? In a word &#8211; no. The way to achieve any fitness goal is through discipline and a healthy outlook. Exercise and eating right help too.</p>
<p>When products on the market advertise that they can promise a flat belly, or gimmicky equipment hits your television late at night, don’t believe it. There is no substitute for doing the work that is needed to reach your goals.<br />
1. You are what you eat. Losing weight or fat begins with what you put into your mouth. The body needs certain nutrients to function daily. That doesn’t include greasy fast food or high calorie drinks.<br />
Putting good stuff in will help you get the results that you want. Stick with fresh, not processed foods and create a healthy diet that incorporates protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals.<br />

2. Participate in aerobic exercise. Aerobics burns fat. This can be taking a spinning class, dancing, step aerobics, kickboxing or walking on the treadmill or elliptical trainer. When you increase your caloric output, fat within your body is burned for fuel. The reason that you can’t see those beautiful abdominal muscles is because of the fat pad that is covering them. Reduce your body fat and reduce the amount of fat in your abdominal region.</p>
<p>3. Tune your exercise regimen to fighting the belly bulge. Using targeted abdominal training helps to whip them into the best shape possible. A strong midsection improves posture and increases stability and balance. Weak abdominals can result in back pain and injury when lifting. Increasing muscle also burns fat even when you are at rest. Don’t forget to work the entire abdominal area: upper, lower and oblique.</p>
<p>4. Reduce the belly bloat. Sometimes, the reason we don’t have a flat belly has to do with what we have been eating. Consuming too much salt can result in fluid retention, especially in women who are premenstrual or menstruating. Cruciferous veggies like broccoli are good for you but can cause you to become gassy. Reduce the bloat with gas pills like Beano or by eating gassy foods in moderation.</p>
<p>5. Eating three large meals can put your body into starvation mode when it holds onto fat wondering where its next meal will come from. Eat six smaller meals to increase metabolism and fat burn. Include a little protein in each meal to fight cravings that can increase belly fat.</p>

<p><span id="more-858"></span>Another hard pill to swallow is that an individual who has a particularly slow metabolism will require less calories to maintain their bodily needs (like breathing and digestion) and therefore less calories, then another person.  This particular state of affairs will happen to each and every one of us.  As the body continues to age individuals find that they require less food in order to maintain their body weight or conversely, require less food in order to gain weight.  Many individuals find that this number changes drastically when they hit the age of 30, again at 40 and once again at 60.</p>
<p>However, if an individual puts their body into starvation mode by eating too few calories for a length of time this will slow the metabolisms down and they will no longer lose weight.</p>
<p>Using a healthy weight loss plan to achieve a negative calorie balance requires both fitness and a healthy diet.  Although the need for exercise and fitness has been well publicized to achieve a negative calorie burn and raise their metabolism for long-term weight loss, many people may not be aware of the equally important benefits to health and wellness.</p>
<p>By increasing the heart rate and respiratory rate through exercise individuals are also able to increase the blood flow through their circulatory system, increase the efficiency of their heart, decrease their blood glucose and improve the function of their lungs.  Individuals who suffer from diabetes will find that regular exercise will help them to maintain their blood glucose levels and often times decrease the amount of insulin required.  Through exercise they&#8217;re able to decrease the long-term negative effects of using animal hormones in the body while still incorporating a fitness routine into their daily lives.</p>
<p>Fitness also increases flexibility and strength so more people are able to perform their daily routine without any discomfort.  It increases energy levels, self-esteem and self-awareness of the body.  Individuals report that they feel muscles they&#8217;d forgotten they even had.</p>
<p>For these benefits to take effect it is important that the routine have both an intensity and duration.  The intensity of the fitness routine will equal how fast your heart rate goes and for how long.  Are you sweating?  Does routine make your muscles burn?</p>
<p>The duration describes just how long you&#8217;re doing the exercise routine.</p>
<p>Although both intensity and duration are important factors, if the initial level of fitness doesn&#8217;t allow the individual to exercise for more than 10 minutes then incorporating a 10 minute fitness plan three times throughout the day will give them similar benefits to doing 30 minutes all at once.  Then, as the fitness level improves, the individual will be able to maintain an intensity for a greater amount of duration.</p>
<p>The goal in any fitness program designed for weight loss is to do a moderate amount of exercise while maintaining that intensity level for 45 minutes to an hour and a half.  The amount of time (duration) which is chosen for the exercise program will relate to an individual&#8217;s lifestyle, overall health, amount of weight required for loss and the motivation of the individual.  The individual should also be working add an intensity level where they are producing sweat for at least half the work out and slightly out of breath when completed.</p>
<p>Individuals who are moderately to severely overweight should use only low-impact aerobic activities to decrease the potential for damage to the joints.  These types of activities include swimming, running in the pool, rolling and walking.  They are great exercises that continue to increase the heart rate while not damaging the joints.</p>
<p>Weight-loss and fitness programs can improve the quality of an individual&#8217;s life. Researchers also report that individuals who incorporate a fitness program into their lifestyle enjoy a lower risk of heart attack, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, common inflammatory disease and cancer.  It is a gentler way of making changes to your lifestyle that increases your success rate for your weight-loss program.</p>

<p>One of the effects of drinking dieter&#8217;s tea is frequent bowel movement. This gives people the feeling of body cleansing. These people may get toxins out of their body but it isn&#8217;t exactly the only thing that slimming tea actually does to the body. Slimming tea contains herbs which are natural laxatives. These include aloe, senna, rhubarb root, cascara, buckthorn and castor oil. These are products which are derived from plants and are used since the ancient times because of their potency in treating constipation and to inducing bowel movement.<span id="more-786"></span></p>
<p>Cascara, castor oil and senna are substances which are recognized as laxatives available over the counter and are also regulated as drugs. Scientific studies show that diarrhea induced by laxatives does not absorb significant amounts of calories taken in the body.</p>
<p>The reason for this is that laxatives do not act on the small intestines where most of the calories are absorbed. Instead, they work on the large intestines. If taken in large amounts for prolonged periods, it can affect fat absorption of the body. This may lead to greasy diarrhea and loss of weight. Abuse of laxatives is common practice among people who suffer from bulimia and anorexia nervosa.</p>
<p>While weight loss can be guaranteed by overdosing on laxatives, it may also cause permanent damage to the gastrointesitinal tract and the weakening and softening of the bones, a condition known as osteomalacia. Drinkers of slimming teas may actually patronize the product because they are less expensive and taste better than other laxatives sold in the market. Other people, such as those with eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia nervosa drink dieter&#8217;s tea because they work fast and produce watery stools that have a loose consistency.</p>
<p>Women may even be more susceptible to the effects of slimming teas. Although they are not known to interfere directly with a woman&#8217;s menstrual cycle and fertility, they should watch out if drinking them causes them to rapidly shed weight. It is also not safe for pregnant women to be taking in laxatives of any kind. Wise and reponsible herbalists also discourage the use of senna and other herbal products with laxative properties for pregnant women and women who are trying to conceive. </p>
<p>One should be wary about these findings because the labeling of slimming teas in the market today can be absolutely misleading. For instance, they commonly refer to the laxative qualities as &#8220;natural bowel cleansing properties&#8221; and do not specifically use the word &#8220;laxative&#8221;.  Some even use the term &#8220;low-calorie&#8221; on their labelling. These products in fact, contain essentially no calories nor nutrients whatsoever  unless of course,  they are sweetened.</p>
<p>Adverse effects of misusing laxatives in the form of slimming tea generally occurs when the tea is taken more than or longer than recommended.
